TERRIBLE: Rev. Father James Ani Caught In Armed Robbery

You hear some stories and you are like... Could this really be true? This is one of such stories:

An area known as Imeohia Mmaku in Awgu LGA of Enugu State recently came under the siege of robbers cum kidnappers, who invaded the community to perpetrate their heinous crime. On the fateful day, a priest was said to have led some notorious gang of robbers/kidnappers in the deadly operation.
While the operation lasted, the gang sealed off entrances and exits to the community. Clad in a white cassock, Rev. Fr. James Ani, in company with about eight other people held the community by the jugular and laid siege on their prey for hours.
It was gathered that they combed the community to see if they could find a prime target to kidnap on which they could feed. As the siege was going on, a team of anti-robbery patrol team usually on routine checks on communities in the state was passing by and accosted the gang.

On seeing the police team, Fr. Ani reportedly commanded his ‘boys’ to launch offensive. Wielding dangerous weapons, the gang reportedly engaged the police team in fierce gun duel which further sent habitants of the community and travellers scampering for safety.

During the clash, Fr. Ani and his gang reportedly got hold of one Inspector Cosmas Nzeribe and a couple of his colleagues, and almost sniffed life out of them. They however bowed to the superior firepower of the law enforcement agents leading to their arrest. Before they were arrested, the hoodlums damaged the two vehicles used by the police.

In the end, Fr. Ani and three others; Ugwu Marcel, Obasi Felix and Norbert Eke were arrested and taken to custody. About five other members of the gang escaped from the scene of the attack.

In a chat with reporters, an eye witness, who identified himself as Okey, said: “I ply this road very often and I can tell you that most travellers had had harrowing experiences to share about this place. It is such a bad spot and when the robbers were arrested and we saw a supposed man of God among them, not many of us were surprised because we had experienced that before in this area. Criminals would put on cloths meant for the clergymen to rob people. Thank God, this one was caught.”

At the time of his arrest, Fr. Ani claimed that he is not a robber but a priest. However, upon interrogation, he confessed to his crime, saying he was pushed into the crime due to lull in his business.

Spokesman of Enugu Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the arrest. He said “The Commissioner of Police has said it many times that there is no hiding place for criminals again in Enugu. This statement he is matching with actions which are evident in the arrest of the four suspects. Imagine someone supposed to be a man of God, being the ring leader in such a crime!”

Muslim Beauty Pageant Is Satanic, Unislmaic – Nigerian Muslims

A cross section of Nigerian Muslims have berated organisers and participants in the Muslim Miss World beauty pageant incidentally won by a Nigerian, Miss Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola, a student of the University of Lagos.

All of those who bared their mind in today’s edition of Vanguard newspaper condemned the pageant held in Indonesia on September 18, describing it variously as a show of shame and un-Islamic and warning of heavy consequences from Allah for both the organisers and participants in the competition. In a major article on the issue entitled “Miss Muslimah World: A rash invention”, Ishola Balogun wrote:

“I listened and watched with amazement comments from people who tagged themselves liberal Muslims rationalising the show of shame in Indonesia last week where a Nigerian Muslim Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola was crowned the Miss Muslimah World. More stupefying is that those who ought to know and point out where the organisers of the pageant goofed and where the pageant is antithetical to Islam rather chose to celebrate it. Very unfortunate.

“Woman, as taught by Islam since the light of Islam, is a precious and most valuable being. She is to be protected, honoured, treasured and valued. And like a treasure, her beauty should be respected, hidden for the purpose of her security and safety so as not to be exposed to abuses by unworthy eyes and lustful minds.

Though i am of the opinion that the beauty pageant organised by the Muslim and named it World Muslim beauty pageant was of the same inferiority complex and regular negative challenges from them. But with this revelation of Nigeria Muslims, my heart beat that this Aishah, the winner of the pageant needs protection as they have claimed it is against their religion and a sin to Allah. Glo X Factor Judges, M.I Abaga, Onyeka Onwenu And Rockstone at War

The battle for Globacom’s N24 million prize money for the winner of X Factor, has assumed an interesting dimension with the judges of the show taking on each other at the Boot Camp.

As the remaining contestants at the camp battle to secure a place in the Top 9 stage of the contest, the judges are also seeking to out-do each other to ensure that the candidates they are mentoring do not only go far in the competition but also end up winning the ultimate prize.

The contestants are divided among the three judges – Onyeka Onwenu, MI and Reggie Rockstone, whose duty it is to mentor the singers assigned to them and help prepare them for the live performances and progress in the contest. The contestants are grouped into the “Under 23”, “Over 23” and “Group singers”.

Rockstone, father of hiplife music in Ghana, fired the first salvo. “This is war. I need the best army to go to this war,” he declared. “People say I am cocky, I’m over-confident or whatever. So I’m going to stay that way. But tell you something, I don’t know what category or who I am mentoring. But everything I touch, Midas, gold. I am winning this competition,” he boasted in his American accent.

“For me, this is do or die,” MI fired back. “It is MI’s time now. And that difference is going to show. I am not looking for great. I am not looking for average or okay, I am looking for someone with the ‘X’ and he is going to come from my camp,”

The Elegant Stallion is not to be outdone either. “I am ready. I do not take risks. I know about entertainment. Period. I can work with any of the groups but I think the real challenge for me will be to work with the ‘Under 23’ and that is what I will like to do”, Onyeka stated, promising to work hard to ensure that her group produces the winner of Glo X Factor.

Leave Tonto Dikeh And go After Drug Barons – HURIWA Tells NDLEA

A non-governmental organization, Human Rights Writers’ Association of Nigeria, (HURIWA) has reacted to the controversy trailing an alleged marijuana picture posted online by popular actress, Tonto Dikeh.

The actress had posted the picture on the social media, an act which drew the attention of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Its spokesman Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, in his reaction had said that “The law is clear and NDLEA has been very clear on the issue. No one is permitted to sell, use, cultivate or encourage the use of Indian hemp in Nigeria. The substance is one of the banned narcotics in the country.”

In a statement jointly issued by the National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and National media Director, Miss. Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA said the anti-drug agency was “chasing shadows by threatening to arrest a Nigerian citizen whose alleged ‘marijuana photograph’ does not constitute hard core judicial evidence but rather a social media contraption that may never stand credibility test in the competent court of law.”

HURIWA urged NDLEA not to waste taxpayers’ fund in pursuing a matter that is substantially irrelevant and lacks proof.

The Rights group tasked the agency to instead extend its dragnet and arrest high profile drug barons and peddlers rather than engage in ‘meaningless voyage of discovery’ and ‘attention seeking’ in the media which the Rights group described as ‘witch- hunting’ and an elaborate attempt to undermine the fundamental freedoms of the actress- Miss Tonto Dike who is now being framed up with a trumped up charge of posting ‘marijuana photograph’ on the social media.

It advised the NDLEA to concentrate on how to repair its public image damaged by the costly mistake it made during the arrest, detention and investigation of the popular Yoruba comedian Baba Suwe (the popular expensive faecis/excreta gamble by the NDLEA)”.

Pastor Kumuyi Offers to Resign Due to Son’s Wedding Controversy

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Williams Kumuyi has offered to drop his position as the GS of the church due to the ongoing controversy trailing his son’s wedding.

Kumuyi’s second son, John, and his wife Love wedded in Jamaica on June 15th, 2013 and the wife, Love, decked in attire different from the acceptable standard set for Deeper Life members by the church – a simple white cotton dress with no accessory, and makeup free.

Love was dressed in a fitted Cinderella wedding gown with see through sleeves, wore makeup, jewelry, and a bouquet of flower, and a huge throat-dripping cake. The couple also drove home in a limousine!

All these has generated myriad of controversies on social media and criticism especially from the members of the church.

Though the couple felt remorseful and tendered an open apology but was declined by the father. They were later suspended from the church by the General Superintendent himself.

New Development:

According to Sunday Sun, the practice in the Deeper Life Church is that, if members’ children misbehave, both the children and their parents get punished on the ground that it’s the parents failing in their responsibilities.

It was learnt that during the meeting held by the leadership of the church concerning the issue, Pastor Kumuyi offered to resign as General Superintendent just to demonstrate there is no double standard in the church, but the members refused his request.

Tunde Bakare Condemns Suspension of Kumuyi’s Son

Pastor Tunde Bakare has spoken against the suspension handed out to John and Love Kumuyi, over the wedding attire the bride wore.

“I personally did not see what they have done wrong. A man is entitled to his own authority in his own home; 1st Peter Chapter 3. A wife should dress to please the husband and not the members of the church or public. It’s sheer wickedness to the couple, they should leave them to enjoy their honeymoon,” he said in a recent interview.

They should not squeeze them to the modus operandi of a particular organization. I did not see anything wrong in the wedding. The bride was not naked or dressed inappropriately and the groom didn’t. Esther the queen was beautifully dressed in the bible to gain the king’s attention. They should not make mountain out of a molehill.

I was in the Deeper Life Bible Church for five years and nobody compelled me to dress the way I dressed. My wife was with me in the church though we weren’t married then. She wears earrings and dresses nicely. All this talk about this couple should stop.”
